Trauma-Informed Treatment
As a trauma-informed therapist, I recognize the widespread impact of trauma on the mind, body, and spirit. This includes acute PTSD, complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, collective and societal trauma, and more. I prioritize fostering a sense of safety, trust, and empowerment. I respect the body’s defense mechanisms that have developed as a consequence of traumatic experiences and aim to facilitate healing at a gentle pace to minimize risk of retraumatization.
Affirmative Therapy
My therapy practice is both LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity-affirming. I specialize in working with queer identities; individuals with alternative lifestyle interests including BDSM, kink and sex work; and individuals/couples practicing non-traditional relationship dynamics including ethical non-monogamy, open relationships, polyamory, solo poly, relationship anarchy, and more! My approach is informed by professional research and clinical experience, as well as my personal experience as an Asian American, queer, non-monogamous, kink- and sex-positive community member. I welcome all clients who have felt marginalized, oppressed and/or disregarded as a result of their identities, cultural background, social strata, or diverse abilities.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS is a non-pathologizing approach that facilitates inner harmony by understanding and integrating various “parts” of ourselves that often hold conflicting emotions and beliefs. Many people know this approach as “parts-work” or “inner-child healing”. As a Level 2-trained IFS therapist, I help clients explore and deepen their connection with their authentic Self. By identifying and healing wounded parts, clients experience greater security, clarity and confidence in themselves. My approach combines IFS and somatic therapy, facilitating a deep connection between mind and body, creating a safe environment for the nervous system to gradually let go of maladaptive reactive (fight, flight, freeze, fawn) behaviors.
Memory Reconsolidation
Memory reconsolidation is a key component of IFS, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, hypnotherapy, and several other modalities of trauma-informed treatment. Memory reconsolidation facilitates the updating and altering of stored memories in the brain and body. During the memory reconsolidation process, I gently guide my clients to recall the traumatic experience in their minds and bodies under safe conditions. This reactivates the neural pathways that were originally formed during the trauma and provides an opportunity to “redo” the experience, effectively rewiring the trauma responses that interfere with optimal functioning.
Somatic Therapy
My approach to therapy emphasizes the connection between body and mind. There is a solid base of empirical evidence showing that trauma is stored in the body’s nervous system. Through incorporating somatic exercises, including body awareness, movement, and physical sensations into the therapeutic process, I help clients access and process these deeply-ingrained traumas. By deepening the body-mind connection, clients can more easily access the insight and wisdom inherent in their being. As a result, they experience a freedom to fully embody joy, presence, calm and compassion.
Psychedelic Integration
As a believer in the healing potential of alternative medicines, I support clients in integrating and processing prior journeys, as well as preparing and setting intentions for future journeys. While I cannot provide medicines nor facilitate a guided experience, I can provide psycheducation, collaborate with the client to evaluate and discuss risks, facilitate safety-planning when appropriate, and provide a safe place for clients to process their experiences without judgment.
